Volunteer with us.

Volunteering with Yimusa ministries gives you an excellent opportunity to witness first-hand the challenges faced by communities in the developing world. This experience will arm you with applicable life skills that will leave you with an unrivaled experience and memories you will cherish for the rest of your life.

Our main focus is to discover, train, teach, enhance talent and help the development of each child. Volunteering with us will be incredibly rewarding. You'll gain hands-on insight into local communities and learn their way of life. You will be able to experience a truly community-based society that might be quite different from the society you come from.

 

Working with the local communities of Jinja and Buikwe Districts can be your opportunity to feel the appreciation of the local population and witness your contribution improve people's lives. The small things we do for the community can really help the underprivileged improve their lives. It is a mutually beneficial experience, giving you a new perspective to observe the ever-evolving world around you.

AIRPORT PICK UP

Once you have registered for the program and are prepared with everything you need, please book your flight to arrive at Entebbe International Airport (EBB). Your airport pick up is included in your program fee. When you arrive, you will be greeted and welcomed at the airport by our local team and transported to Jinja district in eastern Uganda, a 124 km journey of 2h and 30 minutes. Your accommodation is covered by your program fee.

ORIENTATION

Orientation is hosted by our local team and begins the morning of your chosen start date. It covers everything you need to know for your volunteer program in Uganda.

This includes: An introduction to Uganda, culture and customs, rules and expectations, safety, language basics (Luganda and lusoga), travel opportunities, and an introduction to project and placement. The orientation will also give you a chance to make friends with other volunteers and swap contact details for weekend travel and socializing.

VOLUNTEER SCHEDULE

On the first day of volunteering, the local team will escort you to the organization and introduce you to the team you will work with and the kids. You will be given your itinerary. Volunteers work for approximately 5 to 6 hours a day.

8:30 am Travel and begin work around 9:30am – 10:00am

Volunteers and the local team travel to their placements or program of the day by car (usually hired) to the destination and start their workload depending on the project you have selected.

1:00 pm Volunteers break for lunch

Volunteers usually eat a packed lunch at their placement since we travel to rural areas for community outreach. Depending on the distance, volunteers sometimes travel back to the organization or eat at a nearby restaurant.

3:00pm -4:00pm End of typical work day

After outreach, we drive back to the organization. Feel free to stay there or be driven back to your guest house to rest. You use your free time as you wish.

Weekends

On weekends you can choose to stay at the organization, your guest house or we can organize activities for you. There are exciting safaris and tours to see where you can learn more about Uganda. You can see the Murchison Falls (a source of the Nile River), Itanda Falls, Sipi Falls (for gorilla and jungle trekking) or other tourist attractions of your choice.

AIRPORT DROP OFF

Once your volunteer program comes to an end, our local team will drop you off at the airport.
